Federal brackets are progressive. Each band of taxable income is charged at its own rate, so entering a higher bracket does not apply that rate to every dollar.
This simplified estimate excludes tax credits, itemized deductions, self-employment tax, payroll tax, state tax, capital-gains treatment and the alternative minimum tax.
Does the estimate include a refund?
No. A refund or balance due depends on withholding and estimated payments, which are not entered here.
Can I use itemized deductions?
This version uses the standard deduction. It is designed as a quick estimate, not tax preparation software.
